Human Biology of Stress and Sports

Founded in 2020 with funding from the University of Washington's Center for Leadership in Athletics (https://uwcla.uw.edu/), the Human Biology of Stress and Sports research team brought together several interconnected research projects at the University of Washington. We are currently in the process of expanding to several more schools across the US.

We utilize a range of methods - from qualitative interviews to molecular labwork - to better understand how humans adapt, adjust, and react to physical activity, with a special focus on student-athletes and the Anthropology of Sports. In particular, we are most directly interested in studying and promoting student-athlete mental health and well-being.

Our most recent projects center on the interplay between athletics, psychosocial stress, and adaptations to altitude and utilize a combination of in-person and remote data collection.
